CAN Guru Lite

Two-channel CAN to USB bus converter with support for CAN FD standard.

Key features

The device is designed for development, testing and diagnostics of electronic components equipped with CAN bus.

The included suite of software tools offers the ability to decode, monitor, record, filter, redirect and replay recorded data.

For a more easily readable representation, signal values can be linked to graphical displays including graphs and histograms to create your own dashboard.

Both channels support the option of using an internal bus terminator.

Application

Monitoring signal values

The software decodes CAN bus messages based on a DBC file into individual messages and their contained signals. These signals are then converted into a human-readable format and displayed on a simple slider. At the same time, a short history log of the communication is shown.

Selected values can be added to a view called the dashboard to improve the readability of the communication.

The dashboard view can include simple numeric displays, binary indicators, analog gauges, time-based graphs, histograms, or a custom display element tailored to your needs.

Bus communication logging

The software allows logging of communication to a file, with support for multi-channel recording. The logging is performed without decoding the signal values. Each incoming message is written on a separate line and includes: a timestamp, device ID, channel, message ID, communication direction, message length, and the raw data.

Validating communication during development

During the development of ECUs, sensors, and other devices, CAN Guru Lite can be used for validation and communication based on known CAN Database (DBC) files.

The interface provides insight into the presence of messages on the bus, signal values including their translation into logical values, and changes in signals over time.

Diagnostics and maintenance

By connecting to the CAN bus, you can monitor the internal states of devices and diagnose potential deviations from normal behavior or faults.

Diagnostics can be performed either by observing signal values in real time or by analyzing a recorded log, which can be replayed continuously in a loop. This allows you to review the cause of problematic behavior as many times as needed until the issue is resolved.

Message filtering and forwarding

In addition to standard bus-to-bus conversion, CAN Guru Lite also supports hardware-level filtering. It allows configuration of blocked (deny list) and allowed (allow list) message modes, as well as a bridge mode, in which selected messages are forwarded from one port to another.

Sensor and device development support

Through its available software tools, CAN Guru Lite provides a comprehensive solution to support the development of sensors, ECUs, and other devices that communicate via the CAN bus.

Simulation

Using the Testera or uTestera software tools, the CAN Guru Lite converter can be used to simulate data on the CAN bus.

Simulations can also be created using custom software that connects to the converter via the provided library. For easier implementation, a simple SDK is included with the library.

Supported tools

Software for analyzing, recording and monitoring CAN bus signal values based on CAN Database (DBC) files.

Software tool for monitoring and controlling communication on the CAN bus via ISO-TP protocol.

Software Development Kit

An SDK for implementation in your own software solutions, including a set of examples.
