LIN Viewer

Software for analysis, recording, and monitoring of signal values on the LIN bus based on LIN Description File (LDF) files.

Key features

Display of signal values using graphical indicators, including charts and histograms.

Configuration of converters into Master and Slave modes based on LDF files.

Multi-channel LIN bus communication recording.

Search and filtering of messages and signals.

Use cases

Signal value monitoring

The software decodes LIN bus frames based on LDF files into messages and their contained signals. It then converts these into a user-readable format and displays them on a simple slider. A short communication history log is also shown.

Selected values can be added to a display called a dashboard to improve communication readability.

Dashboard displays can be configured as simple numeric readouts, binary indicators, gauges, time-based graphs, histograms, or we can develop custom display elements tailored to your needs.

Bus communication recording

The software allows communication logging to a file, supporting multi-channel recording. This involves logging communication without decoding signal values and includes: timestamp, device ID, channel, message ID, communication direction, message size, and the data itself.

Communication validation during development

During development, LIN Viewer can be used for validation and management of communication based on known LIN Description File (LDF) files.

The display allows you to see the  messages on the bus, signal values including their translation into logical states, and changes in signal values over time.

Diagnostics and maintenance

By connecting to the LIN bus, you can monitor the internal states of devices and diagnose possible deviations from normal operation and faults.

Diagnostics can be performed both by monitoring signal values in real time and by analyzing recorded data, which can be continuously replayed. This allows you to examine the causes of problematic behavior for as long as needed until the issue is resolved.

Test systems

LIN Viewer can be used as an auxiliary display during the execution of test scenarios on devices or test setups.

The clear dashboard provides technicians or testers with immediate insight into the system status through visually presented signal values.

Supported hardware

Eight-channel LIN-to-USB bus converter with support for Observer, Slave, Master, and Scheduler modes.

BusKit

Device for logging CAN, LIN, Ethernet 100BASE-T1, and 1000BASE-T1 buses onboard a vehicle.

Third-party devices

  • Vector CAN Case
  • Peak System PLIN-USB
